The Power of our Words
“This morning I took all six of the kids to the grocery store with me to grab a few things for the weekend. The moment we pulled into the parking lot it began POURING rain... the kind of rain that comes down side ways in sheets. There were items on my list that I knew if we didn't get then, we would have to drive back into town later for. We crammed under 2 umbrellas and ran into the store. Because of the sideways rain, I'm pretty sure there wasn't a dry spot on any of us....

Anyone with several kids in tow know the comments that come with going places as a group. So imagine 6 kids and a mama all soaked to the bone. We were quite a sight. More often than not the comments (either spoken directly to you or loud enough for you to hear) are less than encouraging.
It's been a long week here behind the scenes (to clarify... nothing to do with my kids or husband. Man I love them!) and walking into the store my thick skin for comments wasn't feeling so thick. But... much to my surprise... four separate people said the most encouraging comments as we shopped. "You're doing a good job mama" "What a beautiful family... you are blessed". and even a pat on the shoulder. .

I'm not a crier... but the kindness and encouragement of strangers made me want to weep right there in Costco. The power of our words... may we never forget just how powerful they are. How the simplest encouraging comment might be just the thing that is going to get a tired mama through the rest of her day. The kind word we give might just be the balm that a hurting soul needs to be reminded that they are loved.”- @thevanillatulip
